Look of the Day: Tropical Toucan

I completely intended to upload a tutorial for this look today, but the same thing happened to this video that happened to the last one. The sound is not that great and cuts in and out. I decided not to upload it because I want the videos that I do for you to be the best quality I feel I can provide. I will just have to start using my camera to take videos and see how that goes.

I still really liked this look I did, so I will share pictures of it anyway. I used colors that reminded me of tropical birds and found this picture of a toucan that I think matches the look pretty well:

Here are pictures of the look and I listed the products I used below as well:

Products Used:
Urban Decay Primer Potion
BH Cosmetics 120 Palette 2nd Edition -A bright yellow and bright orange on the lid, a teal in the crease, a medium bright blue in the crease, and an off-white on the brow bone
Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner in Flipside
Clinique Lash Doubling Mascara
Clinique High Impact Mascara
CoverGirl Jumbo Gloss Balm in Ballet Twist

Nails of the Day

You know that feeling when you are so frustrated with so many things in your life and then one more thing goes wrong and you feel like you are going to go over the edge? Well that is how my week has been.

I have been a little busy this week with some things, so I didn't have time to work on any really good ideas for posts.

I did want to show you my nail polish I have on today though. I used the Lancome Vernis in Love nail polish in Aqua Bleu that I discussed in a post a couple weeks ago. I know, I know, more Lancome stuff, but I just wanted to follow up and show you what it looks like on.

I painted these yesterday and so far, so good. They haven't chipped at all yet and still look fresh. That's more than I can say about a lot of nail polish I have.
I also used Lancome's mattifying nail polish on top of it, which I cannot remember what it's called and I can't find it online anywhere.

While you're here, I also want to know: What do you want to see me talk about/do in the near future? Tutorials, reviews, etc.? I want to start doing more videos too. Tutorials will definitely be in video form.

Please, please, please let me know in the comments below! Anyone with or without a Blogger account can comment! I would love some feedback, and I want to make my blog enjoyable for everyone.

The official first day of summer is very gloomy today where I am in Iowa, so I hope you get to enjoy your day outside instead of inside like me. Have a lovely weekend!

OPI Nail Polish

I picked up two new nail polishes a couple weeks ago that I was super excited to try out!

The first color is called You're Such a Budapest. It is from the Euro Central collection. I have been eyeing it for a couple of months and have seen and heard numerous beauty bloggers talk about this color.

The color is a beautiful periwinkle shade. I put it on my nails for the first time this week and these are my thoughts and observations about it:

  • The color goes on very sheer, so you need at least two coats to cover your nails.
  • It also went on a little streaky, but that went away after I applied a second coat.
  • The color is true to what it looks like in the bottle, which is usually the case for OPI polishes but not always with others. I have gotten some nail polishes that are either way darker, way lighter, or just not that same color that they look like in the bottle.
Sorry for the sloppiness. I was in a hurry when I painted my nails and didn't get a chance to clean up the polish around the edges.

I also picked up the OPI shade, Ate Berries in the Canaries. This shade is from the Spain collection OPI did a few years ago. I believe this color may be being discontinued. It was 35% at Younkers. Usually when OPI goes on sale there, they are getting rid of colors that are not going to be made anymore.

This nail polish is a pink, berry color. I think this is going to be my go-to shade for summer. It is such a beautiful color. The polish does not streak and covers pretty well with one coat, but I did two when I put it on my toenails for good measure.

Pictures of feet are weird.

Lancôme Vernis in Love Nail Polish and Color Design Infinite 24H Eye Shadow

I feel like I post about Lancome products a lot. Sorry for that. I promise I have some other posts coming up soon that involve other cosmetic brands, both high-end and drugstore.

Yesterday I talked about Lancome's gift with purchase. You buy two Lancome products and get and free, six-piece gift.

I happened to buy three items that I want to show you.

I purchased one of the Vernis In Love nail polishes in the shade Aqua Bleu. This shade is from their summer collection, and I am not sure if it will be in their permanent collection. It is a cerulean blue that is super gorgeous. I don't have any other blues like it.

These nail polishes are supposed to not streak when applied and are supposed to stay put for days. Lancome nail polish retails for $15.

I also decided to try two of their Color Design Infinite 24H Eyeshadows. These are a newer Lancome product. I believe they were introduced some time last year. They retail for $24.50.

One of the colors I got is called Enduring Vert. It is a satin pastel green. This eye shadow is a creamy powder formula that supposedly last for 24 hours without creasing. I'm excited to try this formula and see if I like it.
This is the container the eye shadow comes in. It is similar to the Maybelline Color Tattoo packaging.
It also comes with this "press" in it. This helps keep the eye shadow pressed down. It can get kind of messy and this can help keep it all cleaned up.

Enduring Vert
Enduring Vert looks like sea foam green when applied.
The other color I got is Tremendous Turquoise. This is a satin teal shade (obviously you can tell that by the name). I believe this was in their spring collection, and I am not sure if it will be added to the permanent collection. The color is similar to Enduring Vert, but is a little more vibrant and has more blue tones to it, of course.

Tremendous Turquoise and Enduring Vert

I will try to post a look using these shadows some time and possibly review these along with some other products.

Lancôme Summer Gift With Purchase

The Lancome summer gift with purchase started Tuesday at Younkers, so I want to show it off!

If you don't have a Younkers near you, you may have a store affiliated with the same company, Bon-Ton, nearby. To find the store closest to you, check here.

The six-piece gift is free when you purchase two products at the Lancome counter. I said this in my last Lancome gift blog, but this is a great time to get started with Lancome if you haven't tried the line before or to stock up on their products.

I got two eyeshadows and a nail polish in order to receive my gift, and I will post a separate blog about those items tomorrow.

I have pictures of the six-piece gift and descriptions of everything below.

The first piece of the gift is this tote bag. I think it is super cute a fun for summer.
The bag is reversible. The inside is this pretty, coral pink color. Sorry for all the wrinkles.
Next you pick a serum. Genifique is a youth activating concentrate, which gives you radiant-looking skin.
Visionnaire is your other serum option. This serum fights wrinkles and fine lines, diminishes pores and evens skin tone.
Then you can pick a cleanser. I chose Creme Radiance because it is for normal/combination skin. The other option is Galatee Confort cleanser for dry skin.
You have a choice between a bronzer and an eyeshadow palette as well.
The bronzer is called Star Bronzer Natural Glow in the shade Lumere.
This is the eyeshadow quad that you can choose instead of the bronzer.
These Color Design shades are, starting at the top left and going clockwise: Daylight, Kitten Heel, Glamorize, and Clock Strikes 12
You receive this travel size Definicils mascara.
You also receive a travel size Bifacil eye makeup remover.

If you get a chance to check out this gift, you definitely should. The gift goes through, I think, the 22nd or the 23rd. Supplies are more limited for Lancome's summer gifts, so I wouldn't wait until the last minute to pick up some products because they might be out of things.

Let me know in the comments below if you get the Lancome gift and/or what your favorite Lancome products are! You don't have to have a Blogger account to comment!

I know I say this a lot, but I really appreciate everyone that reads my blog and comes back to read new posts. It means a lot to me, and I always appreciate any feedback you have on what you would like to see me do/talk about.

Maybelline Baby Lips Review

I bought my first Baby Lips last year (in Quenched) but never really used it much until recently. I started using it so much that I decided to pick up a new one last month in Coral Crush. The flavor isn't my favorite, but I use it occasionally.

Last week, I'm not sure why, but I went for it again and bought two more Baby Lips in the shades Pink Punch and Twinkle. I think it's the packaging that sucks me in with these things.

These balms feel extremely moisturizing when they are applied. However, the moisturizing feeling doesn't last as long as Maybelline claims it does on the packaging (8 hours). My lips feel moisturized for around two hours before I need to reapply. Some days I don't really mind this and some days I do. It depends on how much time you like to continuously put into your lip look for the day. I do feel like after using Baby Lips at least a few times a day for a week, my lips feel a little less dry.

The pigment in Baby Lips is very sheer. There are two shades that have no color to them and the others add subtle color. You could wear these paired with a non-drying lipstick or lip gloss as well as on their own.

I tend to apply one of these in the morning when I wake up and then put a different lip product over it when I do my makeup.

If you are going to try these, you definitely don't need as many as I have. They are slightly over-priced depending on where you buy them, and they just aren't worth having this many.

Below I have pictures of the Baby Lips I have, a description of their scent, and how they look when applied.

Pink Punch is nicely pigmented and adds a great pink shade  to the lips.  It smells/tastes fruity like the name suggests.  It reminds me slightly of Hawaiian Punch.

Twinkle really just enhances the natural color of the lip. It does not have much pigment, which you can see in the swatch below. The scent/taste of this one is also fruity like berries.
Here is the Coral Crush I bought last month. Pigmentation is very nice in this one and leaves a nice coral shade on the lips. The smell/taste is citrus orange, which is not my personal favorite.
Left to Right: Pink Punch, Twinkle, Coral Crush

I got these for $2.97 at Walmart. They are around the same price at Target and are a dollar more at Ulta.
